This document covers the NESKTOP desktop browser application (built on Electron). It explains how the desktop app handles your data, profiles, sessions, and local storage.

1. Relationship to the web service

The desktop app connects to the Nesktop service for login, sync, and personalised layouts. Your account, content, and settings are managed by the Nesktop service. By using the desktop app, you are also subject to the Terms of Service, Privacy Policy, and Cookie Policy.

2. Local profiles

The desktop app can store multiple encrypted NESKTOP account profiles on one device. Each profile maintains its own:

• Browser session, including cookies, history, and active logins for websites visited through the app.
• NESKTOP account session, isolated per profile.
• Organisation context (managed layouts, shared settings).
• Locally cached workspace, providing read-only access when the network is unavailable.

You are responsible for removing stored profiles before sharing or transferring a device. A factory reset or app uninstall removes local profiles, but data already synchronised to the Nesktop service remains in your account.

3. Operating-system secure storage

Account authentication tokens are stored using the operating system's secure storage mechanism where available (for example, Windows Credential Manager, macOS Keychain, or Linux libsecret). This means tokens are encrypted at rest on your device and are not stored in plain text. If the OS does not provide a compatible secure storage mechanism, tokens may be stored with reduced protection; you should keep your device and operating system up to date.

4. Local browsing history and profile isolation

Each profile has its own isolated browsing history, stored locally on your device. History is not synced between profiles or uploaded to Nesktop servers. Clearing a profile's browsing data removes locally stored history for that profile only.

5. Sync and account data

The desktop app synchronises your Nesktop account data (bookmarks, layouts, notes, settings, and organisation assignments) with the Nesktop service when you are signed in and connected to the internet. Sync is encrypted in transit (HTTPS/TLS). You may disconnect a profile from sync at any time through the app settings.

6. Updates

The desktop app may automatically check for and install updates. Updates may include security patches, feature changes, or compatibility improvements. You can configure update behaviour in the app settings. Some updates may be required to maintain compatibility with the Nesktop service.

7. Third-party web content

When you browse websites using the desktop app, those websites may set cookies, store data, and process your information under their own terms and privacy policies. Nesktop does not control third-party websites or their data practices.

8. Device security

You are responsible for the security of the device on which the desktop app is installed. This includes keeping your operating system and antivirus software up to date, using a strong device password or biometric lock, and not sharing your device with untrusted parties without first removing your NESKTOP profiles.

The desktop app does not bypass your device's security features. It respects operating-system user accounts, file permissions, and screen-lock controls.

9. Uninstall and local data deletion

Uninstalling the desktop app removes:

• Local profile data, including browsing history, cached content, and authentication tokens.
• App settings and preferences.
• Locally cached workspace data.

Data already synchronised to the Nesktop service is not removed when you uninstall the app. To delete your account and server-side data, follow the account deletion process described in the Terms of Service.
